Celebrity big bothered

So Celebrity Big Brother is over. And despite my better judgement, and my hatred of reality TV shows like that, I did still end up watching a bit. Or maybe a bit more than a bit.

So what have we learned from CBB this year. Well, I found it interesting that of the 4 finalists, 3 of them were 'normal', either lower middle or working class, young and on the whole, quite friendly. Michael is a damaged guy, as were a few of them, and craved not really attention but encouragement. Pete is a wind up, and I think he's had to defend himself so much in the past that he is now permanently on the defensive.

But what do you guys think? What did you like or dislike about CBB? Its over to you...

Loved every bloody minute of it. dont spose thats much of a surprise stalwart of poular culture that I am.

Someone on the radio was just describing it as a modern-day morality tale, with baddies george + dennis, a monster, pete, and a little hansel and gretel preston and chantelle.

they should have kept them in for 5 years

Didn't Maggot remind you of Rob loads though. This sort of laid back seeming dim wit, whose really likeable and you kinda know that there's something in his head even though it seems there's not.

Does that make me Traci? Oh dear oh dear.

Maggot was typical of many welshies I know (and honorary welshies - tim oakes). Reserves judgement and always a gent.

Yeah, I loved it. My favourite housemates were Pete and Maggot, cept I didnt like it when Pete had a go at Preston over the "poor me, pour me" incident, cos that was definately a loaded phrase.

pete was a bit vile in general, but to be fair, if you are going to be insulting, you may as well be funny too.

maggot bordered between reminding me of rob, but also being incredibly socially awkward. Mind you I'd be in that house too.

Traci was insane. Whenever I saw her she seemed to be asking if people were watching her and looking for cameras and stuff. And you're much prettier than Traci my dear Victoria.

I'm impressed by the idea of a non-celeb winning the celeb big brother contest. Celebrity culture exposed for what it is.

I am probably one of the few who want to defend Gorgeous George. Sure he acted like an idiot some of the time (but then again who didn't). His motives for going into the house appeared really sound, and he has mostly handled himself well since leaving. The press hated him before he went near the house so were hardly going to give him a fair ride while in there. I think that George will benefit in the long run and has started a trend that we are going to see continue in the years ahead.

I didn't like a Pete much. At some points he was pure poison (his assault on poor Traci being one of his worst moments). Lots of people were saying (the lovely Davina McCall being one) that they respected Pete for always speaking his mind. I don't think that deserves any respect at all. I appreciate someone like Preston, who seemed to be more concerned with the feelings of his housemates than being brutally honest.

Firstly Victoria being a 'welshie' is an honour I'll refuse thank you! This saturday England play Wales. I'll be supporting England.

Rob's new animal name is worm. I think that sums up how much rob is maggot or maggot is rob. Did anyone else finds maggots height to width ratio disturbing. The man is dangerously thin. Everytime he stood up I was worried he'd either bang his head on light fixture or just snap.

Loved CBB except for annoying Traci. If I'd been the house she would have driven me crazy with her obsence vainity.

jon, how can you say that george galloway handled himself well - did you not see the cat impression??? it was SO wrong!

Also, I thought it was appaling how he attacked preston and chantelle and michael, picking on thier weaknesses, a man of his age, for shame.

and he lied through his ass on many occasions, most notable when he said if he'd been the bank manager he would have stood in the middle of the room and refused to eat or drink or smoke, come on.

there is no depth to my bile for the man. fair play for trying to reach a different generation, but go on richard and judy, dont prance around the house in a leotard

Jon, I thought Gorgeous George was a bit of a mong really. Granted, it does seemt that he was duped by BB- when they spoke to him about coming in, they said he could use it as a platform to air his views, but then they put birdsong over any time he talked about politics.

But on the whole, I thought that it presented politicians, and himself in a bad light. He was sneaky, used over the top language, wallowed in his superior intelligence, picked on the less intellectual and backstabbed people.

What was interesting was the amount of power that Dennis seemed to have in the house. But then again, he is a scary guy. To think that he's got a wife and kids too is a bit weird.

Bless her, Faria was alright too. And Chantelle winning was very postmodern too

I don't know anything about what happened except that on BBC World there was a news piece about how Galloway's Bow constituents were angry with him going on reality TV instead of representing them, particuarly in some debate on London Crossrail. I don't know what that is either but from what you lot are saying it sounds like he would've done a much better job by staying away. I'd imagine he's not helped his political career but maybe he's after a celebrity career instead.

I just came across this hilarious interview between Galloway and Jeremy Paxman from election night...

Trevor, at least I didn't use the excuse 'my wife made me watch it'. Plus, I stopped watching once George left. I'd like to throw a paint ball at your head!

Jodie, sure he was a bit of an idiot inside, but I said that he has handled himself well since coming out of the house. I do believe that he would not have eaten, drunk or smoked or any of the goodies, he went in trying to make a point and that would have been an ideal time (just like the box game).

Tim, he did lose perspective some of the time. But there were alot of positives. He stood up for people who were being picked on for one. The BB highlights only show the worst aspects of the whole day.

Dan, the media hate him, they are bound to report something like that, noone wants to say anything nice about him because of his political views. I don't think he is after a celebrity career, he is a political activist through and through, concerned with encouraging people to engage.

I thought I would have my back against the wall over this one!

I want a Celebrity Big Brother featuring:

Hulk Hogan,
Ultimate Warrior,
Ravishing Rick Rude,
Richard Madeley,
Jackie Chan,
Christopher Walken,
Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg,
Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones,
Michael Winslow (that one out of Police Academy who can make all the sound effects with only his mouth),
and
Special guest referee Mr T.

I'd definately watch that.

Kate, you are forgiven. I accept your apologies whole heartedly. I wrote a post a little while ago about making blogs look groovy. You can find it here

But Jodie is one of my favourite peoples. She has me at the very top of the tree- a great honour!

Kiera, you can get to Kate's blog here. And try to get some sleep- sleeping pills, or alcohol, or murder may help.

Dan, that would be the ultimate CBB. Although you'd have to watch out for Tom Sellecks moustache having a fight with Hulk Hogans. And also watch out for the fact that Richard Madeley may not be the best viewing, because he is dead.

If we are going for anyone, deceased or living, to live in the house, it would have to be Duncan Ferguson, or Spike Milligan, or Zed the crazy one from Police academy, played by Bobcat Goldthwaite.

When did Madeley perish?! How?!

(Are you think of Richard Whiteley...?)

At 01 February, 2006 12:20 , Blogger Tim Lovell said...

Woah! My bad. I repeat: My bad. Madeley is still alive and making a fool of himself. No, I think you'd have heard if Madeley had copped it, the nation would be in a mass period of mourning.

Apologies for any emotional trauma caused.

I obviously should have watched CBB if only to see Maggot/Rob/Worm.

And, actually Tim, we wouldn't want you as a Welshie, honorary or otherwise.

many thanks to Jodie for nominating Zed. the funniest comic charachter of the 20th century. if anyone wants to borrow police academy 4 i have it. he really comes into his own.

i would nominate Chuck Norris and David Hasslehoff.

Are you joking Becky! Do I not exist? I might not have made your highly selective 'buddies' list but at least give me credit where credit's due. I don't see Jodie saying anything about the Zed man- it was me!

And you are right, he is a legend.

I think that there's something really good about BB (and CBB by extension), in that it's a celebration of relationships and just being with each other. A bunch of people go into a house for a rather long period and we just watch them relate to each other. And seeing as God is a bunch of relationships and relating is what we'll be doing for all eternity, watching the final of CBB filled my heart with hope.

Obviously there's lots of bad stuff about it too. But there we go.

Tim, sounds like you've been reading 'Trinity' by RTF!

That is the strongest defence of BB that I've ever heard! "BB is good because it reminds of God." Very good. Thanks for the comment mate.
